Mihaela van der Schaar appointed the Chief AI Scientist at the Francis Crick Institute

Today, it was announced that Prof Mihaela van der Schaar will take on the position of Chief AI Scientist at the Francis Crick Institute, alongside her professorship at the University of Cambridge.

In this new role, Prof van der Schaar will work with scientists at the institute, including researchers from its university partners, to explore how new approaches in AI can deepen biological understanding, from generating hypotheses to designing experiments and uncovering mechanisms of disease.

“I am incredibly excited by the opportunity to work with Crick scientists to explore what becomes possible when this depth of biological insight is combined with the most powerful new ideas in artificial intelligence.”
