Exploring human and machine intelligence
Conversations between Mihaela van der Schaar and Andrew Rashbass

Mihaela van der Schaar is the John Humphrey Plummer Professor of Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and Medicine at the University of Cambridge, a Fellow at The Alan Turing Institute, and founder and director of the Cambridge Centre for AI in Medicine (CCAIM).

Andrew Rashbass is the former CEO of The Economist Group, Reuters and Euromoney Institutional Investor PLC, and now works closely with Mihaela and the van der Schaar Lab on a range of initiatives.
About: This series of conversations between Mihaela and Andrew explores how humans and machines can partner in ways that empower and help people. The discussions are informal and explore a particular topic in some depth. The topics explored will be wide-ranging – from much-discussed machine-learning topics such as reinforcement and inverse reinforcement learning, causality, meta-learning and transfer-learning, and discovery from data to less-known subjects such as quantitative epistemology, reasoning in a complex and messy world, and which human-machine partnerships are advantageous and why.
The conversations will take place in person, usually at universities throughout the world, and will typically not be streamed nor recorded.
Upcoming session will be published on this website.
