Mihaela van der Schaar will deliver a tutorial at the 2020 Machine Learning Summer School (MLSS) to be hosted by the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems from June 28 through July 10.
Mihaela will present her tutorial, entitled “Machine Learning for Healthcare” on July 8 and July 9. In her talk, she will explore the challenges and unique opportunities that come with creating a new field of study in which the traditional machine learning techniques and models cannot be applied. She will also provide an introduction to some creative approaches the van der Schaar Lab has taken to addressing these challenges.
The MLSS event series was started in 2002 to promote modern methods of statistical machine learning and inference. It was motivated by the observation that, while many students are keen to learn about machine learning, and an increasing number of researchers want to apply machine learning methods to their research problems, few machine learning courses are taught at universities. MLSS events focus on topics that are at the core of modern machine learning, from fundamentals to state-of-the-art practice.
Mihaela will be one of 17 expert speakers at the event, which this year will be held virtually due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
All presentations from the event will be made publicly available on Youtube.
