Revolutionizing Healthcare: synthetic data in healthcare

19 April, 2022, saw the sixteenth virtual Revolutionizing Healthcare engagement sessions of the van der Schaar Lab and its audience of practising clinicians.

At the beginning of the session, Mihaela offered an easy-to-follow, high-level introduction to synthetic data generation, followed by a comprehensive presentation of a synthetic data demonstrator by Dr Jem Rashbass, MD, developed and designed by members of the van der Schaar lab.

The latter part of the session featured an engaging clinician roundtable comprising an expert panel of three specialists in the area of synthetic data:

  • Prof Carsten Utoft Niemann, MD (Associate Professor and Head of the Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) Laboratory and Clinical Research Program for CLL at Rigshospitalet’s Department of Hematology, Copenhagen)
  • Dr Jem Rashbass, MD (Chief Executive and Medical Director at Health Data Insight C.I.C., Cambridge; Previous NHS Executive Director for Data and Analytical Services; Previous National Director for Disease Registration and Cancer Analysis)
  • Dr Thomas Callender, MD (Wellcome Trust Clinical Training Fellow in Respiratory Medicine, UCL; Previous NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow in Public Health, UCL; Previous NHS Public Health Registrar)

Our panelists answered a number of questions posed by Mihaela and the audience.
